The Kinship goal is to match kids in need of an adult role model with a caring volunteer, at no cost to the family. We do not charge the family of the youth, nor the mentors any fee whatsoever. In order to accomplish this, we need donations to meet our yearly budget to pay for our monthly events and workshops.
Thank you for your support of the youth of the regional area.
Currently, several area individuals, businesses and organizations are donating to the Kinship program. With their help, and with yours, we are able to continue to help out the youth in our area. Just a few of these donators are:
Arvig • KLN Enterprises • Thrivant • United Way • United Community Bank • Otto Bremer Foundation • Lions • Perham Rotary • FOCUS • Private Donations
Kinship benefits from donations of goods and services, in addition to financial donations. The hours you volunteer with us and the miles you drive are just as important as the writing of a check. In-Kind donations can be as easy as volunteering your time to help in our office or at an event; donating goods and services; providing reduced rates on services or goods; or hours and miles you donate as a mentor. Any items you donate to the Stuff the Bus and our Kollecting for Kids programs are also examples of In-Kind Donations.
Benefit of In-Kind Donations: Even though some of these in-kind donations are not recognized by the IRS, Kinship is able to report these donations as match funds for our YIP grant. This gives us greater flexibility in meeting our fund-raising goals and gives our community greater ability to contribute to the needs of our organization.
Sponsor a Child
Sponsorship is a powerful way to support a Kinship relationship! Mentoring children is proven to build self-confidence and self-esteem, improve grades and school attendance, reduces risk of drug/alcohol abuse and gives a child a sense of self-worth and stability. Sponsorship contributions help provide valuable training and support to mentors and opportunities for children – creating a future!
Currently the children in our program are age 5-17. Usually they are referred to Kinship from school personnel, child protection and clergy. Mentors are matched with a child based on needs and common interests. The Kinship has 75 mentor/child connections. Kids stay in the program until they are 18 (in which we hope the relationship continues) or until the matched is closed due to a move or other circumstances.
In our benchmarking research, we’ve found that the average cost for mentoring a child in Minnesota is over $1,200 a year. Due to our unique satellite office models and the way we utilize volunteers, the cost to Kinship per child breaks down to less than $600. This means that our supporters can more than double the impact by giving to Kinship!
There are 2 unique types of sponsorships:
- Lead Sponsorship which costs $25 or more per month. A lead sponsor is the only sponsor for a mentor/child match.
- Guide sponsorship which costs $10 or more per month. This sponsorship supports children in group mentor programs
Sponsors will receive:
- A Kinship Introductory sponsorship packet including a picture of mentor/child.
- An annual photo and letter from child
- An annual newsletter and activity report
Whether you are an Individual, a Church, a Group or club, a Family, a Business, or even a Classroom, you can sponsor a child!
